If you are using Piano Marvel on the web and not receiving scores, or the MIDI connection is not working as expected, it could be due to several factors. Please try the steps below to troubleshoot this issue. After trying each step, test Piano Marvel again to see if the issue is resolved.
1. Refresh the browser:
Refreshing the browser can sometimes re-establish the MIDI connection.
2. Turn your piano off & on again:
Some pianos will stop sending & receiving MIDI if they are left on. Restarting the piano may help.
3. Disconnect & reconnect the MIDI cable from the computer:
This can sometimes reset the USB port and establish the MIDI connection.
4. Switch the MIDI cable to a different USB port:
Sometimes the configuration on a port can cause issues; switching USB ports on the computer can sometimes help with this.
5. Check or switch browser:
We recommend using either the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox. If you are already using one of these browsers, please try the other.
6. Restart computer:
Restarting the computer can sometimes reset all of the USB drivers and clear out processes that may be inhibiting the MIDI connection.
7. Check the MIDI IN/OUT connection.
Ensure that the MIDI cable is connected securely. On most cables, there is an input and an output. Typically, the input of the cable connects to the output of the keyboard, and the output of the cable connects to the input of the keyboard. Check the MIDI cable’s documentation to verify if your cable should be connected this way. (Note: if you have an M-AUDIO MIDI cable, this is not the case. It will connect in to in and out to out)
8. Try switching from the PianoPlugin app:
In most cases, using the Piano Marvel plugin is the best way to establish a stable MIDI connection; however, a web MIDI connection may be more suitable for some individuals in certain instances. Try the following:
- TRY WITH PIANO MARVEL PLUGIN: Check to see if you are running the Piano Marvel plugin. In your Piano Marvel account, if you see a green dot in the upper right-hand corner next to your username, then the plugin is already installed and running. If you see a red dot next to your username, this means that the PianoPlugin is either not installed or is not running. Visit pianomarvel.com/download to download and install the plugin for Mac or PC. (Note: Chromebooks cannot install the Piano Marvel plugin. They must use a web MIDI connection.)
- TRY WITH WEB MIDI: If you have tried using the Piano Marvel plugin with no success, a web MIDI connection may work better for you. Try uninstalling the PianoPlugin app from your computer and running Piano Marvel in Chrome or Firefox. You will see a red dot next to your username in this case, but that is okay. Also, make sure that your browser gives permission to pianomarvel.com to connect to MIDI.
9. Check for MIDI Drivers:
Check the MIDI cable manufacturer’s website for drivers for your MIDI cable. If your instrument connects via USB only, the manufacturer should have drivers available on their website.
*If you are using a Yamaha piano, please install the appropriate driver for your instrument from the Yamaha website. We recommend conducting an internet search for a USB MIDI driver for your Yamaha piano model (Windows/Mac, depending on your operating system).
10. Check system requirements:
Ensure that your system meets the system requirements for Piano Marvel to function properly.
Windows: Windows 7 (with Windows updates), Windows 8, Windows 10 (At least 4GB RAM, recommended 6GB or more)
MAC: OSX 10.8.5 or later (Must have an Intel or M series Processor) (At least 4GB RAM, recommended 6GB or more)
iPad: iPad operating system 12 or later
Chromebook and Linux: Please ensure you are using the Chrome browser.
