🚨 Start Here (Don’t Skip)

Enter any song, select Practice, and press a key on your keyboard.

🔍 Step 1 — Check Physical Connection

If using USB to HOST:

  • Make sure the keyboard is powered on
  • Plug directly into your computer (no hub)
  • Try a different USB port on your computer

⚠️ Common mistakes:

  • Using a charging-only USB cable (no data)
  • Using the wrong port on your keyboard (USB type A does not send MIDI)
  • Keyboard turned on after app loaded → reload the app
  • Loose cable connection

If using MIDI interface:

  • MIDI OUT (keyboard) → MIDI IN (interface)
  • Interface → Computer via USB
  • Interface powered on (Usually powered via the ports)

⚠️ Common mistake:

  • IN/OUT reversed (very common)

🧠 Step 2 — Does Your Computer See the Keyboard?

This is the most important check.

On Windows:

  • Press Start → type “Device Manager”
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  • OR Audio inputs and outputs

👉 Do you see your keyboard listed?

On Mac:

  • Open Audio MIDI Setup
  • Check if your device appears

Results:

  • YES (device is listed) → Go to Step 3
  • NO (not listed) → Go to Step 2A

❌ Step 2A — Computer Does NOT Detect Keyboard

This is NOT a Piano Marvel issue.

Try this:

  • Restart your computer
  • Try a different USB cable
  • Try a different USB port
  • Try a different computer (if possible)

⚠️ If still not detected:

  • Likely driver issue or hardware issue

👉 Fix:

  • Install manufacturer drivers (if required)
  • Or replace cable/device

⚙️ Step 3 — Select the Correct Device in Piano Marvel

  • Open Piano Marvel
  • Click  Your Name → Instrument Settings
  • Select your keyboard

⚠️ Common mistakes:

  • Selecting the wrong device (e.g., “Microsoft GS Wavetable”)
  • Device appears but isn’t selected
  • Multiple devices causing confusion

👉 Test again.

  • Working? → Done
  • Still not working? → Continue

🌐 Step 4 — Browser Issues (Very Common)

Piano Marvel runs in your browser.

Fix:

  • Use Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Fully close and reopen the browser
  • Reload Piano Marvel

Check permissions:

  • Chrome → Settings → Privacy & Security
  • Make sure MIDI/device access is allowed

⚠️ Common issue:

  • Another app is using your keyboard → close all music software

👉 Test again.

  • Working? → Done
  • Still not working? → Continue

🔄 Step 5 — Reset the Connection

  • Unplug keyboard
  • Close browser completely
  • Reboot computer
  • Plug keyboard back in
  • Open Piano Marvel again

👉 Test again.

🧪 Step 6 — Test Outside Piano Marvel (Important)

This isolates the problem.

Use:

  • A MIDI tester tool (We recommend this site)
  • Or any DAW/software

Results:

  • Works outside Piano Marvel → Browser/config issue → go back to Step 4
  • Does NOT work anywhere → Hardware/driver issue

🧠 Edge Cases (Less Common)

Multiple MIDI devices

  • Disconnect all except your keyboard
  • Restart and retry

Bluetooth MIDI

  • Ensure stable connection
  • Re-pair device

Older keyboards

  • May require specific drivers
  • Some are not fully compatible
