Can I use an acoustic piano?
Although Piano Marvel is designed to work optimally using the connection between a MIDI capable keyboard and your device, there are a few ways you can utilize the program with an acoustic piano. Firstly, we offer Self Assessment Mode. This functions more similarly to traditional sheet music in the sense that you read it and play along, judging your own performance as you go. It does not offer feedback on notes played but having the music cursor and metronome offer advantages over traditional sheet music in regards to teaching tempo. There are also .pdf copies of the Method Books available through the web app, and you can also purchase physical copies of these via Amazon.
If you are using an iOS device, we also offer the Microphone Assessment. This allows the device to 'listen' to the notes you play with your acoustic piano and gives feedback accordingly. It works quite well up until around level 4 of the lessons, as it does still have some difficulty recognizing chords, and the experience can be somewhat varied; if you have an iOS device we would encourage you to try it out!
