Piano Marvel Starters Guide: A Step-by-Step Walkthrough for New Students


Welcome to Piano Marvel! If you've never played piano before, you're in the right place. This guide will walk you through everything you need to get started—step by step. Whether you’re a student, parent, or teacher helping a beginner, this guide makes the process simple and clear.

Step 1: Set Up Your Piano Marvel Account

Do you have a Piano Marvel account yet?

Want full access? You can upgrade to a premium subscription anytime to unlock everything Piano Marvel offers. To purchase a subscription code, visit the store here: Piano Marvel Store

Premium options include:

  • Recurring Monthly or Annual Subscriptions (Set these up via the Billing tab under My Account)

  • Prepaid Subscription Codes (3-, 4-, 6-, 12-month & bulk options)


Step 2: Choose the Device You’ll Use

Piano Marvel works on many devices. Pick the one you’ll use most:

  • Computer (Windows, Mac, or Chromebook)

  • Tablet or Phone (iOS or Android)

Tip: Most features work best on a computer or iPad. Phones are great for practicing on the go or using the on-screen keyboard.

Connecting a Piano or Keyboard:
Before moving forward, make sure you know what kind of port your device has (USB, Lightning, etc.) and what your keyboard supports (MIDI, USB, or audio out).

Step 3: What Kind of Piano Do You Have?

Don’t have a piano yet?
No problem! We’ve put together a list of affordable, reliable keyboards and digital pianos perfect for beginners: Recommended Pianos for Beginners

Already have a piano or keyboard? Here’s how Piano Marvel works with your instrument:

  • Digital Piano or Keyboard: You can use a USB or MIDI connection for the most accurate feedback. You’ll also be able to use the MIDI Assessment mode in the app.

  • Acoustic Piano: If you’re using an iPad or iPhone, try the Microphone Assessment feature. It listens to what you play and gives you feedback.


Step 4: Let’s Start Playing!

Now that your account is set up and your piano is connected, it’s time to start making music!

Here are the best places to begin:

  • Method & Technique Lessons:

    • Start with Level 1 in the Method, then Level 1 in Technique to ensure a balanced progression Or tackle Method until you slow down and switch. There’s no right or wrong way to play!

  • Music Library:

    • Explore hundreds of songs, from beginner to advanced. Try pieces at your level and work your way up. Check out the FUNdamentals and Sight Reading Samurai series!

  • SASR Test:

    • This is the Standardized Assessment of Sight Reading, an accurate and reliable method of tracking your level of sight reading ability and piano skill. Take it regularly to track your progress!

  • Challenges:

    • Compete in friendly piano challenges and see how you stack up with others!


For Students: Connect With Your Teacher

If you're learning with a teacher, they can link your account to track your progress and share assignments with you.

  • Go into My Account and add your teacher’s email under the My Teacher segment.

  • Once linked, your teacher can assign music, track your reports, and help guide your progress.
