Microphone Assessment (iPhone & iPad Guide)
🎤 Microphone Assessment (iPhone & iPad Guide)
✅ What this is
-
Lets Piano Marvel detect notes using your device’s microphone
-
No keyboard or MIDI connection required
👉 Available on iPhone & iPad only
⚠️ Important Limitations
Microphone Assessment is:
-
Less accurate than MIDI
-
Affected by background noise
-
Dependent on device microphone quality
👉 For best results:
-
Use a MIDI keyboard instead
🚨 Start Here (Quick Check)
Play a few notes.
👉 What happens?
-
Notes are detected correctly → You’re good
-
Some notes are detected, but inaccurate → Continue
-
No notes detected at all → Continue
🔍 Step 1 — Check Microphone Permission
Piano Marvel must have access to your microphone.
On iPhone/iPad:
-
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
-
Make sure Piano Marvel is enabled
👉 Test again.
-
Working? → Done
-
Still not working? → Continue
🔊 Step 2 — Check Your Environment
Microphone input is highly sensitive to surroundings.
Make sure:
-
Room is quiet
-
No background music or noise
-
No talking nearby
-
Mixer is set to Metronome Only (default for Microphone Assessment)
⚠️ Common issue:
-
Background noise interferes with detection
👉 Test again
📱 Step 3 — Position Your Device Correctly
-
Place your iPhone/iPad close to the piano/keyboard
-
Aim the microphone toward the sound source
-
Remove any cover or case on your iPhone/iPad
⚠️ Too far away = weak detection
👉 Test again
🎹 Step 4 — Check Your Instrument
Microphone Assessment works best with:
-
Acoustic pianos
-
Clear, clean tones
⚠️ Common issues:
-
Very quiet playing
-
Heavy sustain pedal use
-
Poor tone clarity
👉 Try:
-
Playing slightly louder
-
Using clean, distinct notes
👉 Test again
🔄 Step 5 — Restart the App
-
Close Piano Marvel
-
Reopen it
👉 Test again
🔄 Step 6 — Restart Your Device
-
Power off your iPhone/iPad
-
Turn it back on
👉 Test again
🧠 What Microphone Assessment Can and Cannot Do
✅ Works best for:
-
Basic note detection
-
Casual practice
-
Situations without a keyboard connection
❌ Struggles with:
-
Fast passages
-
Complex chords
-
Precise timing/scoring
-
Noisy environments
👉 This is expected behavior—not necessarily a bug
⚠️ Common Misunderstanding
❌ “It’s not scoring correctly”
👉 Likely cause:
-
Microphone limitations, not user error
✅ Recommendation:
-
Use MIDI keyboard for accurate scoring
🎯 If You’re Still Having Issues
Include:
-
iPhone/iPad model
-
Environment (quiet room, etc.)
-
Acoustic or digital piano
-
