Connecting Your Keyboard (MIDI Guide)

🎹 Connecting Your Keyboard (MIDI Guide)

✅ What this covers

  • How to connect your keyboard to Piano Marvel
  • Cable types and ports
  • USB, MIDI, and Bluetooth options

Time: 2–5 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

🚨 Start Here

👉 Look at the back of your keyboard.

You are looking for ONE of these:

  • USB “TO HOST” port (most common)
  • MIDI IN / OUT ports (round 5-pin)
  • Micro USB (less common)
  • Bluetooth MIDI (no cable)

🔌 Option 1 — USB “TO HOST” (Most Common)

What it looks like:

  • Square-shaped port
  • Often labeled USB TO HOST

What you need:

Connect:

  • Keyboard → Computer / iPad / iPhone

👉 This is the best and easiest option

🎹 Option 2 — MIDI IN / OUT (5-Pin Ports)

What it looks like:

  • Round ports
  • Labeled MIDI IN and MIDI OUT

What you need:

Connect:

  • Keyboard MIDI OUT → Interface IN
  • Interface → Device (USB)

⚠️ Common mistake:

  • Plugging into MIDI IN instead of OUT

🔌 Option 3 — Micro USB (Less Common)

Some keyboards use Micro USB instead of USB-B

What you need:

⚠️ Important:

  • Must be a data cable, not charge-only

📱 Your Device (What You Plug Into)

💻 Computers

  • USB-A (standard rectangle)
  • USB-C (small oval)

📱 iPhone / iPad

  • Lightning (older devices)
  • USB-C (newer devices)

What you may need:

⚠️ Important:

  • Adapter must support data, not just charging

📶 Option 4 — Bluetooth MIDI

No cables required

How it works:

  • Connect via Bluetooth
  • Pair keyboard with device

⚠️ Important

  • Less reliable than wired
  • Can cause delay (latency)
  • May disconnect

👉 Only use if wired is not possible

🎯 Recommended Setup (Best Experience)

👉 Use:

  • USB “TO HOST” connection
  • Direct cable (no hubs if possible)
  • Wired connection (not Bluetooth)

⚠️ Common Mistakes

❌ Using a charge-only cable

→ Must support data

❌ Using cheap adapters

→ May not transmit MIDI

❌ Plugging into MIDI IN instead of OUT

→ No signal sent

❌ Using Bluetooth when wired is available

→ Causes delay and instability
